Can I get an Ombre / Sombre with Hair Extensions?

Okay for starters, Ombre, Sombre, Balayage, what is with all these names? What's the difference? Well first difference would be within the application of the color process-how it's applied to the hair. Second difference would be in the lightness of the hair coloring.

Ombre - When the hair goes from a gradual dark to light with slight blended progression & no highlights.
Sombre- When the hair softly goes from a dark to light very 'gently' with some 'grown out natural' highlights within the color.
Balayage - When the hair color has been painted on the hair used a technique called 'free hand'. Balayage can also be used in combination with Sombre & Ombre.

I get a lot of phone calls asking if I can do an Ombre with hair extensions? The answer I give is 'Yes if your hair let's me.' This basically meaning - I don't know if your hair is going to allow me to color your hair. In the event it does then yes I can use extensions to give you an Ombre look. I will however HAVE to Ombre your current hair first in order for it to blend properly. This rule goes for Sombres too.

I had this client Gi come in and said she wanted a Sombre look done in her hair with Extensions. A mixture of warm & cool tones going into all cool tones was our goal. So to begin I gave her a full foil to brighten her up and then toned her hair with an 09B and clear at the sink for 15 minutes.

Her outcome was great! Took three hours but gave up the completed look we were going for.

You know a client loves her looks when you find a sexy selfie on Instagram the next day =] Xo

Good Hair Extensions Vs. Bad Hair Extensions in Rhode Island

Good Hair Extensions Vs. Bad Hair Extensions in Rhode Island

How can Hair Extensions be bad?

Before & After Good Hair Extensions Vs. Bad Hair Extensions in Rhode Island

Before & After Hair Extensions in Rhode Island By Jaclynn Kate

Before I go off on another one of my hair extension tangents I just want to say I really enjoy education. I really respect when I hear someone say 'I don't know how to do that' or 'I'm not sure but I'd like to learn'. Honesty has always been my best policy in life, love, business, whatever the case may be, and I whole heartily believe in Karma.

What all that being said, when a client comes to you with an idea for their hair and you as a stylist are unsure how to do that. Simply just don't do it. Don't attempt it if you have no idea. Don't take their money. Don't use it as an opportunity to make a paycheck it's lying. When you agree to do business with your client, you need to be 100% with them. If you are unsure of the outcome I believe you need to tell that client that before proceeding.  Hair stylist & client relationships do not just run on the talent but also on the communication between the two.

-THIS IS NOT MY WORK BELOW-

Meet my newest client. This client came to me the day after getting her hair extensions done by someone else. This girl went to a stylist and asked for an ombre done with hair extensions. Now an Ombre in itself is a newly learned color technique and it can be done with extensions too. I've done it. It is not however a technique that can be done by just buying another color of extensions and popping them in. Which is what was done here. The client has brunette hair and wanted a brunette to blonde ombre.

What should have been done prior to putting the extensions in, is the hair color itself. Stylist should've Ombre her hair first and then matched the extension to the colored hair. If this isn't done you are left with a 'two toned look' or a Boot leg 'dip dye' which it looks like she's got a line around her here.

Also I would like to educate those of you who are looking to get extensions done, on the process. If you notice in the photo, it looks like she has 'lines' or 'parts' in the hair, spaces if you will. I can tell just by looking at her head these extensions were not put in properly.

Whom ever put these in, did not have clean even sections. These extensions are also the I tip extensions, which you can see in the photo are not clamped down right being the top of the I tip is sticking out into her head too much!

Now the higher up I got in her hair I noticed their was no 'formulation' on how they were put in. Meaning she just took random sections of her hair and attached an extension. Thus leaving the client with 'spaces'.

The only way to fix her hair was to take them all out & put them all back in, in the proper way. As I mentioned before she wanted an Ombre look. Being that her hair was colored with BOX dye and Wella dye, the dark brown she had wasn't lifting any higher then a medium brown and to save the integrity of her hair after two processes and Olaplaex I wasn't going to lift anymore. I then had to match it to a color for her extensions & reinstall.
Her final outcome was beautiful. Blended, color looked great and the health of her hair was intact.

I managed to get most of the warmth out of her hair before the installation of the extensions again. Unfortunately giving her an ombre look wasn't possible without extreme damage. This client found me on Yelp and I am so glad she did cause I was given the opportunity to educate, and help her. Their's no better feeling then when a client tearfully says thank you for helping me.

Salon in Rhode Island That Does Remy Hair Extensions By Jaclynn Kate

It's highly unfortunate that I have been extremely slacking on my blogging. Truth is, I have been so crazy busy with hair extensions, salon clients, and weddings that I haven't kept up with blogging. So here I am starting the new year off right and getting back on my A Game =]

Starting with my client Kristen! Kristen found me on a Craiglists post over a year ago. I was running a hair extension special getting $50.00 off a full set and she came to see me. He hair was in okay shape as she explained to me that she has very curly hair but straightens is constantly. I continued to listen to her issues with her hair situation, dry, brittle, breaking, and doesn't grow.

Now first thing I like to do with all my clients is be 100% honest and real about the situation and give them real expectations. Kristen didn't seem like the perfect candidate for extensions. Her hair was dry and breaking because she was constantly flat ironing her hair. I explained to her that these extensions are wonderful and have a long lifeline but they are not ideal for someone to flat iron everyday at a high degree. They need constant moisture, oil, conditioning to make the lifeline last. I said I would only put them in if she agreed to take care of them with the instructions I give to her on my Take-Home-Sheet. She agreed. She has gotten three full sets since we have met and she takes great care of her extensions!
These will last her 6-8 months. The lifeline is guaranteed six months from the maker of these extensions. However I have found that you can wear them longer if you trim the dead off the ends as time goes on.

We also have a deal in the salon where if you get ANY service done, you can get a full set of mink eye lash extensions for $90.00. Kristen took the jump and got the full set too!! Figured I'd share her beauty with ya'll =]
