Hair Extensions That Are Damaging By Jaclynn Kate

Hair Extensions That Are Damaging

Lets Talk About Bad Hair Extensions Vs. Good Hair Extensions

Lets Talk About Bad Hair Extensions Vs. Good Hair Extensions

Hair Extensions That Are Damaging By Jaclynn Kate

Their is so much stipulations about hair extensions. I hear in the salon all the time 'they're so bad for your hair' or 'they'll rip your hair out' or they'll help your hair grow'. Well let me set some of this mess straight. Yes, some hair extensions are damaging. Seriously though. You think melting glue into your hair is safe? Just because it has Keratin in the glue?! It's still glue! Just let that work GLUE sit in your head for a second.......not good.

Hair extensions ripping your hair out. That's one I head a lot. Okay everything needs maintenance & hair extensions  are A LOT of maintenance. They take extra time to wash, comb, dry, style, everything. So if you go into your head with a regular brush and put that brush RIGHT to your head WHERE the extensions are & BUSH your hair. Ummm .. yeah, I think you are going to rip one out. They're attached to only a few strands of your hair & you need to maintain them exactly how your stylist tells you too!

Hair Extensions will help your hair grow! LOl ... I wish this was true. So here's how it works. We go in and put rows of hair extensions in your hair. Now you see an image every day of yourself with long hair. And day after your actual hair IS growing you just don't notice it cause you see the extensions. So in all actuality it has NOTHING to do with the extensions. You just aren't noticing your hair growing normally. That's it. It has nothing to do with the extensions themselves. LOL I always did think that statement was quite funny. Like how do people really think that worked? Was the extension magical? lol....

Moving on. I thought I would share some images and some of my educated opinions on these bad hair extension pictures.
So I DID NOT DO THIS! I found this on Google and thought I would throw in my thoughts. This client is a prime candidate for hair extensions. In my opinion she didn't get enough hair extensions & they didn't put them up high enough for her to blend them properly. Never mind the face she could use a better color job to match the blonde hair extensions.

Oh yes the miss Britney. As you can see here she has a ring around the top part of her head. Yes that's her track. This type of extension is braided/sowed into your head. OUCH. the amount of weight put on your head & hair is awful! Talk about head aches! Also I'm not quite sure why her stylist did it so far to the top of her head but it's awful! It was going to be too obvious with a track that she has extensions!

So if you don't want your hair to look like this!! ^^

And you would rather look like this! Email me! This is actually me =] and I do these types of hair extensions which are micro beads, weekly in my salon! ALways happy to answer any questions so shoot me an email!!

Before & After Brunette Hair Extensions

Long Brunette Hair Extensions

Long Brunette Hair Extensions

Before & After Brunette Hair Extensions By Jaclynn Kate

From the past couple of hair extension clients I've has in my chair I have a few things I would like to address to those of you who are thinking about getting them done. First all, If you are looking to just achieve some length NO you do not need to get 100 pieces in your head. Save some money, get only 60 pieces! Second all, pleaseeeee stop coloring your hair yourself at home! I just put in 60 pieces into one of my clients head & told her over and over again DO NOT color your hair at home! I know how much of an up keep blonde can be, but please don't do it at home! If you overlap bleach onto your extensions they could break! If they break it will be a waste of money for you! Save yourself the head ache, the time & annoyance and just go into a salon (or come see me) and get it done by a professional!

Also I keep getting asked if I can achieve the Ombre look on someone by using hair extensions. My answer would be yes to an extent. I can simply add the hair extensions in places to make it look like you have an ombre color as long as you dont want a three dimensional Ombre!

On another note. February 2012 I got 102 pieces of hair put in my head and I took them out in September.
Below the blonde is me! My before and after of the extensions! Not bad right?!
Here is me now! I took the extensions out and had sixty pieces that were still pretty long & I colored them to a dark brow! I then bought a half head of extensions and added them to my year old extensions! This just goes to show, that if you TAKE CARE of your extensions properly, THEY WILL LAST!As you can see from both of my before photos my hair just doesn't grow longer than a little past my shoulders. Hence why I do extensions. I personally love the volume and the length. With the length I can play with it a lot more & curl it a bunch of different ways. Which I love!

Back to the statement I said above, that if you take care of them they will last. When I say that I mean getting your hair professionally colored, using the right shampoo & conditioner, braiding it at night if your a rough sleeper, and using a good hydrating leave in conditioner. All of these things will ensure and prolong the life of your extensions!

Above is another one of my clients who only added sixty pieces to her hair. She then came back the next week to add another twenty to the sides. She felt cause her layer was so short she needed more hair in the front of her face. This client has very curly/wavy hair so she does have to straighten her hair a lot. With clients like her I always suggest a good leave in conditioner that also is a heat protectant. A lot of times we are so used to flat ironing our hair we forget how high and how hot the iron gets. So keep that in min next time you are flat ironing it.

This lovely lady found me from my blog! Love when clients find me from my blog! As you can see in her before photo she has super super thin hair. She also receives the 60 pieces being a half head of extensions and she did trim them about two inches. She felt they were too long for her age. The end result looks amazing on her & so natural. The color blended great too!

If you have any questions on hair extensions, or even a hair cut or color you want done or to get done. Send me an email, a text or give me a call. I answer all emails & if I can't get to my phone I always return calls. Let me know your hair problems & I'll let you know how we can solve it together!

Long Hair Extensions

Long Hair Extensions

Let's Face It. We All Want Long Hair. Don't Lie.

Let's Face It. We All Want Long Hair. Don't Lie.

Hair Extensions By Jaclynn Kate

Yes, we all want long luxurious hair. We see the Kardashians with their long hair, we see the Victoria Secrets models with their long hair, we see some random girl shopping at CVS and think WTH why can't I have that crazy long hair too? Well ladies you can. Best part about you being able to get what you want... it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg! Hair Treats Hair Extensions are incredibly affordable.  Your not looking at paying $1200.00 for hair that's only going to last you two months. Hair Treats Hair Extensions will last you anywhere from 6-8 months.

Another great quality of these extensions are how on point they are with your natural hair color. Color matching your natural locks is never an issue. Our J&L ring has every color from almost WHITE to PINK! Moving forward you can do a beautiful color combination of high lights & low lights to give that added dimension you need when you are curling your hair for a girls night out! Sorry Kardashians, your not the hottest anymore!

Not really looking for length? Maybe your just looking to add some volume.. no biggie. Hair Treats Hair Extensions come 22'' long & you can cut them to any length you desire. Been thinking about doing an Ombre but your nervous about coloring your hair? Get a couple of bags of hair extensions and place them where the Ombre color would go! Boom! No damage done to your hair! Not even by the harsh bleach!

Below is one of my clients I had this past week in my salon. As you can see in the first photo I took, it was before I even did her corrective color. She had some of her natural hair color coming through & a kind of 'orange' looking band after & then the pretty blonde she liked. I had to correct her color first, give her a slight trim & then apply the two different color hair extensions after.

These pictures here, are her after pictures. I did a slight trim after I took the photos, just so she would have a more blunt looking base line. I should have flat ironed her hair before I took the photo it looks like the hair could be a bit smoother. However it does go to show how they look RIGHT after being applied to your hair without any form of styling.

Hair Extensions By Jaclynn Kate

Who doesn't love & want long hair? But for that price?

Who doesn't love & want long hair? But for that price?

Hair Extensions By Jaclynn Kate

Time after time, consultation after consultation the number one question I get asked is price. While the price you are paying for your hair extensions is a great deal, I also like to urge my clients as well as everyone else's clients to take your HAIR into consideration. Consider this. Yes, you can go get a bag of cheap hair from a random hair shop in downtown providence and get them sowed in. Or yes, you can go order some hair online and get it glued in. Yes, you can also look up a random shop online and get extensions put in for maybe $200.00.
However what you are not taking into considering is your HAIR. Glue, doesn't matter what kind of glue is DAMAGING to your hair. Oh em gee, I have seen girls come into the salon with Matt's in the back of their head from the glue a 'stylist' put in to attach their hair extensions. Another thing is the braids. When you 'corn row' a hair extensions in, you are leaving room for matting, pulling, and knotting of your hair strand. Again leaving you with damaged hair and ripping your hair out in the end.
Hair extensions should be treated with extra care, and should be an option to those of us who can't seem to get our hair to grow down our backs. They shouldn't leave holes in our head, & they shouldn't tear our hair out if done by a licenced cosmetologist. If you are uncertain of someones knowledge on extensions ASK to see their certificate before allowing them access to your head.
This is a before picture of one of my clients. As you can see her hair is just below her shoulders, but it holds NO density & is semi broken on the ends from at home over bleaching.
The photo here to the right is before hair extensions and the left is after i put in a half head of extensions. Which is about 60 pieces of hair.
The photo to the right is showing how I put the extension in the hair. Is has a bead on the end. I 'loop' your hair through the center of the extension & clamp the bead on to the hair strand. No glue. No braids. No tracks. No damage.

Back to the price questions I am frequently asked, It's all on how many extensions you want to put in your head. You can get 60-80-100 pieces put in your head its what YOU want to see. If you just want to add length, most of the time you can pull off just 60 pieces. Now if your looking for full vava voom Victoria secrets hair, I'm going to suggest 100 pieces & you'll never regret it.

Some more questions I am ask:

Q. How long does the process take?
JK. Depends 60 pieces will take me about an hour, where 100 pieces can take me an hour & half to two hours.

Q. Can I manage my color with the hair extensions?
JK. Yes. The bead on the end of the extension grows out with your hair strand therefor prolonging the life of your hair extension. So in between growth time you can color your roots to the desired shade of hair coloring you like. Again we urge clients not to do their hair color at home. Especially if they are bleaching cause you DON'T want to get it on the extensions. This goes for highlights as well.

Q. Will they ruin my hair?
JK. I can say from experience of having 102 in my head, they are not going to ruin your hair.

Q. How long will they last.
JK. Six to eight months if maintained properly. I.E. using a heat protectant & not burning your hair with a flat iron ect.

Q. Do I need a certain shampoo & conditioner?
JK. Just like with any professional service you want to maintain it. Hair treats can be kind of dry I recommend a moisture shampoo & leave in conditioner. DON'T leave the salon without great shampoo.
Again you can see here in the top two photos my clients hair is short & very thin on the ends. The photo on the bottom left is how I apply the hair extensions & the photo to the bottom left is the end result.
This is the full photo of the end result. I just could not for the life of me figure out how to turn it around! It kept up loading like this! Grrr.

Again any questions about hair extensions you want to get done or maybe already have done please don't hesitate to ask!!

Answering Hair Extension Questions By Jaclynn Kate

Hair Extensions

What To Do With Thin, Short, Breaking, Not Growing Hair

What To Do With Thin, Short, Breaking, Not Growing Hair

Answering Hair Extension Questions By Jaclynn Kate

Hair thinning seems to be one of the biggest issues I see day to day in the salon. What causes hair thinning? Well a number or things. Try over use of a curling iron, not using a leave in conditioner, over drying your hair, drying out your hair with the wrong hair products, medication, medical issues you might not know you have. Or the one i diagnose most is over use of a flat iron. Ladies, believe it or not, you do not need to singe your hair off to make it straight! Putting your flat iron on a medium to low heat, will in fact straighten your hair. Also using a heat protectant is highly recommended. I personally use the It's a 10 Leave In Plus Keratin, it is a great easy to use product! It helps protect hair against heat elements, detangles, adds shine, repairs damage & split ends, gives body, and so much more. Great to use especially after a Keratin treatment to maintain sleek and smooth results!

Along with the thinning hair comes the breaking & then the hair becoming short. Not a lot of ladies feel beautiful with short hair. I for one don't. So we are seeing more an more ladies come in for Hair Extension consultations.

Here are some questions I get asked weekly during consultations:
Q. My hair is thinning, can I still get extensions?
JK. In all honesty I have to SEE and FEEL the hair to give you a direct answer. 99% of the time the answer is YES. Extensions are made to elongate the hair & give the hair a thinker look.

Q. Will the extensions damage my hair?
A. NO. Hair Treats Hair Extensions are none damaging hair extensions bonded to your hair by a bead.

Q. How long do the extensions last.
JK. If taken care of properly they will last you up to 6-8 months.

Q. I color my hair myself. Can I still color my hair with extensions?
JK. We do NOT recommend you coloring your hair yourself at home. If you over lap bleach on your extensions they could very well break off. Know this. The extensions are 100% human remny hair, however it is not human hair attached directly to the scalp. Its not getting the same treatment as 'alive' hair is. You will dry your hair out and the extensions could very well break if tried at home.

Q. What kind of shampoo should I use?
JK. We recommend the Hair Treats shampoo & Conditioner because it is highly concentrated & will give you extensions the moisture you need to make them LAST!

Q. How many do I need to get?
JK. Tricky questions. It all depends on what YOU want your result to be. If you are looking to just add length, depending on the density of your hair you could get away with just 60 peices. On another note, if you want to leave looking like you have Victoria Secret model hair I say go for the length, body & volume and get the full 100 pieces.

Q. Do I need to sleep with my hair a certain way?
JK. We suggest you trying to sleep with your hair in a braid. It will keep the extensions from tangling & prevent you from over brushing them.

Q. Do I need to fill my hair?
JK. No these are not glued in. Like I said before they are bonded with a bead. They grow out with your hair. Ever 4-6 week you come back into the salon, we open up the bead & push the extension back up & re clamp the bead onto your hair. Therefore prolonging the life of your extension.

I do offer complimentary consultations and would be happy to answer any questions, comments or concerns you might have about getting hair extensions. Or even about the ones you might already have in your head!

Hair Treats Hair Extensions

Maybe She's Born With It? Maybe It's Hair Extensions

Maybe She's Born With It? Maybe It's Hair Extensions

Hair Treats Hair Extensions By Jaclynn Kate

Hair extensions might seen like it's the new thing on the uprising, however it is far from it.   In 1800 fake hair was frowned upon and women left their hair to be natural until the 'Romantic' era was in full swing when women wore elaborate Apollo knots.Around the mid Victorian era & hair pieces were used a lot more extensively. Then strangely in the early 20th century Edwardian women wore false hair additions to create the pompadour hairstyle which looked like a woman was wearing a teapot on her head. How that became fashionable I don't really know! (LOL)

This photo above is a photo of me. This is my before & after of having the Hair Treats Extensions put in my hair.

Around the 1920's (my fav era) less hair was the big thing so hair pieces took a dive around that time and it wasn't until the 1940s when long hair came back into fashion and women starting indulging again. Then in the 1960's big hair was back with a vengeance. Extravagant human hair pieces were used in this time to create fashionable updos. Wigs made from real or fake hair were commonly worn around this time too and carried on into the early 70's. Come the 80's and big hair was in but only natural hair. Famous singers wore wigs but that was about it, mainly because of price.
Starting in the early 90s hair extensions were highly expensive if you wanted 100% human hair. If they were purchases nine times out of ten they were 'fake' hair. You would hear of ladies 'singeing' their hair extensions off. Ouch! Nonetheless, if they weren't frying their hair extensions off, you would hear horror stories about the damage the extensions would leave behind! It hasn't been until recently top of the line hair extensions were at an 'affordable' price for the middle class.
Hair Treats Hair Extensions are top of the line, 100% human hair extensions. They are absolutely changing peoples views on hair extensions. Not only are they damage free, they last you six solid months and sometimes more! With this brand of hair extensions you can add volume, length, dimention, a pop of fantasy color, and more! They're fantastic!
This is one of my clients at my salon in Warwick RI. I put in a full set of Hair Treats Extensions for her. She always had short hair & wanted to try out something new for her 30th birthday! Yes, these are a set of curly Hair Treats as well.

This is another one of my client in my salon in Warwick RI. I am a full time hair and makeup artist there and this client had one of her friends try and color her hair. As you can see in the first photo her hair is shoulder length and in serious need of a corrective color & Keratin Treatment. I did a cut, corrective color, Keratin Treatment and a full head of Hair Treats. Out come is amazing!

Another before and after hair extension. Here my client at my salon in Warwick RI, is in need of a very heavy highlight as well as cutting her dead ends off. As you can see in the second photo, I put in about 80 hair extensions and she achieved 18" in length. She also wanted a ten pack of fantasy colors put in so you can see some purple in her hair.

I do offer complimentary consultations and would be happy to answer any questions, comments or concerns you might have about getting hair extensions. Or even about the ones you might already have in your head!
