Can I get an Ombre / Sombre with Hair Extensions?

Blonde Sombre Hair Extensions in Rhode Island

Okay for starters, Ombre, Sombre, Balayage, what is with all these names? What's the difference? Well first difference would be within the application of the color process-how it's applied to the hair. Second difference would be in the lightness of the hair coloring.

Ombre - When the hair goes from a gradual dark to light with slight blended progression & no highlights.
Sombre- When the hair softly goes from a dark to light very 'gently' with some 'grown out natural' highlights within the color.
Balayage - When the hair color has been painted on the hair used a technique called 'free hand'. Balayage can also be used in combination with Sombre & Ombre.

I get a lot of phone calls asking if I can do an Ombre with hair extensions? The answer I give is 'Yes if your hair let's me.' This basically meaning - I don't know if your hair is going to allow me to color your hair. In the event it does then yes I can use extensions to give you an Ombre look. I will however HAVE to Ombre your current hair first in order for it to blend properly. This rule goes for Sombres too.

I had this client Gi come in and said she wanted a Sombre look done in her hair with Extensions. A mixture of warm & cool tones going into all cool tones was our goal. So to begin I gave her a full foil to brighten her up and then toned her hair with an 09B and clear at the sink for 15 minutes.

Her outcome was great! Took three hours but gave up the completed look we were going for.

You know a client loves her looks when you find a sexy selfie on Instagram the next day =] Xo

Salon in Rhode Island That Does Remy Hair Extensions By Jaclynn Kate

It's highly unfortunate that I have been extremely slacking on my blogging. Truth is, I have been so crazy busy with hair extensions, salon clients, and weddings that I haven't kept up with blogging. So here I am starting the new year off right and getting back on my A Game =]

Starting with my client Kristen! Kristen found me on a Craiglists post over a year ago. I was running a hair extension special getting $50.00 off a full set and she came to see me. He hair was in okay shape as she explained to me that she has very curly hair but straightens is constantly. I continued to listen to her issues with her hair situation, dry, brittle, breaking, and doesn't grow.

Now first thing I like to do with all my clients is be 100% honest and real about the situation and give them real expectations. Kristen didn't seem like the perfect candidate for extensions. Her hair was dry and breaking because she was constantly flat ironing her hair. I explained to her that these extensions are wonderful and have a long lifeline but they are not ideal for someone to flat iron everyday at a high degree. They need constant moisture, oil, conditioning to make the lifeline last. I said I would only put them in if she agreed to take care of them with the instructions I give to her on my Take-Home-Sheet. She agreed. She has gotten three full sets since we have met and she takes great care of her extensions!
These will last her 6-8 months. The lifeline is guaranteed six months from the maker of these extensions. However I have found that you can wear them longer if you trim the dead off the ends as time goes on.

We also have a deal in the salon where if you get ANY service done, you can get a full set of mink eye lash extensions for $90.00. Kristen took the jump and got the full set too!! Figured I'd share her beauty with ya'll =]

Blonde Hair Extensions North Kingstown Rhode Island

Blonde Hair Extensions - The Blonder The Better

I have blonde hair & I bleach it. Can I get blonde hair extensions & still be able to bleach my own hair?

Blonde Non Damaging Hair Extensions In North Kingstown Rhode Island By Jaclynn Kate

Non damaging? How can hair extensions be non damaging? I get this question weekly. The answer is simple- we don't use glue, braiding, or wefts. The brand of extensions used are a micro loop process with silicone & keratin inside of the bead causing no damage. If you hair is strong enough to hold an extension, and you are willing and ready to take care of the extension then you wont have damage to your hair.
'I bleach my hair, how will that effect my extensions?' ... Well if your doing the bleaching yourself at home & expect to still continue to do it at home after getting the extensions put in, you should also be ready to have your extensions fall out. I say this because you CAN bleach your roots with extensions you just have to be VERY careful not to get the beach on the extensions. If you do get the bleach on the extension, they will break. I have many blonde bleach & tone clients who come in for me to do theirs roots to prolong the lifeline of their investment- their extensions.
Meet my adorable client Karissa. Karissa gets a very heavy highlight done by me every 6-8 weeks. She now just got 100 pieces of extensions added into her hair for length & volume. Now I can still go into her head & highlight her hair, as long as I don't get the bleach onto her extensions.

You see these extensions are 100% human remy hair & when they were being made they went through an extensive 4 day 'cleaning & bleaching' process. So if you go ahead & put MORE bleach on them, the blonde can't take it anymore & it will break.

On a side note, we used two different colors in Karissas hair cause she still has some dark pieces from being a brunette. As Karissa goes lighter with her blonde, we will switch out her darker pieces for blonder pieces to match. If you are thinking about getting extensions done don't be afraid to ask 100 questions about the process to your stylist. if he/she doesn't seem knowledgeable & you don't see certification of completion on the process, I would highly advise NOT going with that stylist. But hey, if you want to gamble with your hair- go for it.

High Light / Low Light Hair Extensions

High Light / Low Light Hair Extensions

High Light / Low Light Hair Extensions

Can I Have A High Light & Low Light With Hair Extension?

Can I Have A High Light & Low Light With Hair Extension?

Hair Extensions In Rhode Island By Jaclynn Kate

Many times I receive email inquiries from woman who already have a highlight & low light in their hair. So their concern is that their hair isn't going to blend if they do one solid color of extensions. And they're right. If I were to just go in and do one solid color of hair extensions, their hair wouldn't blend properly. What I usually do if have them come into the salon for a complimentary consultation & I color match their hair colors & match it to our extensions.

It's that simple. Theirs NO need to order one solid color of hair extensions & THEN go back in & try to lighten them to the color of their highlights. Actually with our brand of extensions it is recommended that you DON'T highlights these extensions. They can & probably will break.
This is my client Teresea, & as you can see in the top left photo she already had some over grown highlights, but she wanted to keep them. So what we decided to do was match the highlighted color to the hair extension & put a lot of that color towards the bottom so it looks like an Ombre color.

Teresea put in 60 pieces to start & then came back for 20 more pieces to give her a more full look.  She likes to curl her hair a lot so these extensions work perfectly for her because they hold a curl for a long time!

In closing- if you are a stylist & are going to attempt to do a highlight lowlight extension. I'd suggest a little practise ahead of time so the client doesn't come out 'streaky'! Please email with any questions!! =]

Brunette Hair Extensions By Jaclynn Kate

Brunette Hair Extensions By Jaclynn Kate

Lets Talk About Long Brunette Hair Extensions

Lets Talk About Long Brunette Hair Extensions

Non Damaging Hair Extensions By Jaclynn Kate

I am asked many times when someone new inquires with me about my hair extension services, if they have to color the extensions to match their hair. I guess this question comes up a lot is cause I tend to post photos of blonde hair extensions. Whatever the case may be the answer to the question "do I have to color the extensions to match my hair' is generally no.

With the brand of hair extensions I use, we have a wide variety of hair colors to choose from. The hair has already been throughly cleaned, processed & colored. So we tend to try to stray away from coloring the extensions if we don't have to. I have only come across the need to color these extensions when 1) their hair is a special kind of red 2) when they bough the extensions when they were blonde & then wanted to go brunette & 3)when the decided to try to add low lights.

Another question I am asked frequently is, 'what do I do if I have highlights? Will it blend'? I'd say yes. What I would then do is have you come in the salon for a complimentary consultation, color match your base color & then color match your high lights. Yup, it's that easy. Then when Im putting them in, I just make it look like you have natural highlights running through your hair.
Here is a great example of my client Marie, who received a high light/low light hair extension. I did NOT color her hair to match the extensions but just matched the hair extensions to her current hair color.

In closing- if you are a stylist & are going to attempt to do a highlight lowlight extension. I'd suggest a little practise ahead of time so the client doesn't come out 'streaky'! Please email with any questions!! =]

Hair Extensions That Are Damaging By Jaclynn Kate

Hair Extensions That Are Damaging

Lets Talk About Bad Hair Extensions Vs. Good Hair Extensions

Lets Talk About Bad Hair Extensions Vs. Good Hair Extensions

Hair Extensions That Are Damaging By Jaclynn Kate

Their is so much stipulations about hair extensions. I hear in the salon all the time 'they're so bad for your hair' or 'they'll rip your hair out' or they'll help your hair grow'. Well let me set some of this mess straight. Yes, some hair extensions are damaging. Seriously though. You think melting glue into your hair is safe? Just because it has Keratin in the glue?! It's still glue! Just let that work GLUE sit in your head for a second.......not good.

Hair extensions ripping your hair out. That's one I head a lot. Okay everything needs maintenance & hair extensions  are A LOT of maintenance. They take extra time to wash, comb, dry, style, everything. So if you go into your head with a regular brush and put that brush RIGHT to your head WHERE the extensions are & BUSH your hair. Ummm .. yeah, I think you are going to rip one out. They're attached to only a few strands of your hair & you need to maintain them exactly how your stylist tells you too!

Hair Extensions will help your hair grow! LOl ... I wish this was true. So here's how it works. We go in and put rows of hair extensions in your hair. Now you see an image every day of yourself with long hair. And day after your actual hair IS growing you just don't notice it cause you see the extensions. So in all actuality it has NOTHING to do with the extensions. You just aren't noticing your hair growing normally. That's it. It has nothing to do with the extensions themselves. LOL I always did think that statement was quite funny. Like how do people really think that worked? Was the extension magical? lol....

Moving on. I thought I would share some images and some of my educated opinions on these bad hair extension pictures.
So I DID NOT DO THIS! I found this on Google and thought I would throw in my thoughts. This client is a prime candidate for hair extensions. In my opinion she didn't get enough hair extensions & they didn't put them up high enough for her to blend them properly. Never mind the face she could use a better color job to match the blonde hair extensions.

Oh yes the miss Britney. As you can see here she has a ring around the top part of her head. Yes that's her track. This type of extension is braided/sowed into your head. OUCH. the amount of weight put on your head & hair is awful! Talk about head aches! Also I'm not quite sure why her stylist did it so far to the top of her head but it's awful! It was going to be too obvious with a track that she has extensions!

So if you don't want your hair to look like this!! ^^

And you would rather look like this! Email me! This is actually me =] and I do these types of hair extensions which are micro beads, weekly in my salon! ALways happy to answer any questions so shoot me an email!!
