Lets Talk About Thick Tape In Remy Extensions Done In RI

Tape In Hair Extensions By Jaclynn Kate

Sometimes you get clients that just can't keep color in their hair. Generally you see this happen with woman who have hair on the thinner side. Reds in all tones especially are hard to keep in hair. So I have this super cool client who has long, yet thin hair. Says it has always been this way and wanted extensions. So we have been doing extensions in her hair now for a solid two years.

First we started her off with the micro beaded extensions and now that tape in extensions are so  popular, we have moved her onto doing these now instead. She LOVES them. They make her hair super long and super full!

Generally she gets a high and low light done and then we do an undercolor of extensions. This time around she wanted as 'orange' as she can get lol. Her words-not mine =]
Deciding on how thick she wanted her hair, we decided to put in two packs of Hot Heads Tape in Extensions 18-20 inches long.
Please excuse the top of her head with the lighting shining. She is NOT that warm.

Here is her before photo. As you can see she has great length with unfortunately no density.  With her length being past her shoulders, it makes her a great candidate for tape ins. However, with her hair being on the thinner side, we really want to make sure we aren't putting these extensions anywhere near her low recession line or we will see the tape at the top of the extensions.
The after look! Ta da! A great under color is exactly what she wanted. Two bags of hair = massive amounts of volume. This particular client takes great care of her hair and these will most definitely last her till the end of this year.

Brunette Hair Extensions Done In Rhode Island

Hair Extensions For Your Wedding

Lets Talk About Thick Remy Extensions For Your Wedding

Hot Head Hair Extensions  By Jaclynn Kate

For those of you that have read all my previous blogs, know how much I stress keeping your hair in the best condition as possible. When doing color or extensions, making sure the integrity of your hair is protected should be your #1, and your stylists #1 priority while trying to deliver you with what you want to see done with your hair.

Hair extensions can be used for many different reasons. Mainly I find that woman can't seem to grow their hair longer then their shoulders so they opt for extensions. This year mostly, I am finding that my Brides-to-be are looking for added volume in their hair to look their best on their wedding day. I will gladly apply extensions after an initial consultation has taken place in the salon and I look through the clients hair to make sure that their hair can handle the additional weight to ensure integrity is kept and then we determine how many they will need to get to their desired look.

One of my beautiful 2018 brides appears in the photo above. She is a perfect candidate for extensions. Her hair is below her shoulders and strong enough to endure the added weight. She is currently growing out a hair cut gone wrong done by another stylists , and wants longer thicker hair for her wedding and honeymoon. After our consultation we picked out two different colored extensions for a 'high and lowlight balayaged' look.

This after photo shows the application of a mix between a #3 and a #4 extension. Some may not like the multidimensional look on themselves. Which is totally fine and up to the client. This particular client reached her multidimensional desired look with two bags of hair added. These are guaranteed to last a full six months with proper care and maintenance. I have however seen many of my clients get eleven months out of this brand of extensions with trimming the dead ends off regularly along with getting regular trims.
A side by side look at her before and after. These extension are 18-20'' long!

Blonde Sombre Hair Extensions in Rhode Island

Blonde Remy Hair Extensions

Can I get an Ombre / Sombre with Hair Extensions?

Blonde Sombre Hair Extensions in Rhode Island

Blonde Remy Hair Extensions By Jaclynn Kate

Okay for starters, Ombre, Sombre, Balayage, what is with all these names? What's the difference? Well first difference would be within the application of the color process-how it's applied to the hair. Second difference would be in the lightness of the hair coloring.

Ombre - When the hair goes from a gradual dark to light with slight blended progression & no highlights.
Sombre- When the hair softly goes from a dark to light very 'gently' with some 'grown out natural' highlights within the color.
Balayage - When the hair color has been painted on the hair used a technique called 'free hand'. Balayage can also be used in combination with Sombre & Ombre.

I get a lot of phone calls asking if I can do an Ombre with hair extensions? The answer I give is 'Yes if your hair let's me.' This basically meaning - I don't know if your hair is going to allow me to color your hair. In the event it does then yes I can use extensions to give you an Ombre look. I will however HAVE to Ombre your current hair first in order for it to blend properly. This rule goes for Sombres too.

I had this client Gi come in and said she wanted a Sombre look done in her hair with Extensions. A mixture of warm & cool tones going into all cool tones was our goal. So to begin I gave her a full foil to brighten her up and then toned her hair with an 09B and clear at the sink for 15 minutes.

Her outcome was great! Took three hours but gave up the completed look we were going for.

You know a client loves her looks when you find a sexy selfie on Instagram the next day =] Xo

Good Hair Extensions Vs. Bad Hair Extensions in Rhode Island

Good Hair Extensions Vs. Bad Hair Extensions in Rhode Island

How can Hair Extensions be bad?

Before & After Good Hair Extensions Vs. Bad Hair Extensions in Rhode Island

Before & After Hair Extensions in Rhode Island By Jaclynn Kate

Before I go off on another one of my hair extension tangents I just want to say I really enjoy education. I really respect when I hear someone say 'I don't know how to do that' or 'I'm not sure but I'd like to learn'. Honesty has always been my best policy in life, love, business, whatever the case may be, and I whole heartily believe in Karma.

What all that being said, when a client comes to you with an idea for their hair and you as a stylist are unsure how to do that. Simply just don't do it. Don't attempt it if you have no idea. Don't take their money. Don't use it as an opportunity to make a paycheck it's lying. When you agree to do business with your client, you need to be 100% with them. If you are unsure of the outcome I believe you need to tell that client that before proceeding.  Hair stylist & client relationships do not just run on the talent but also on the communication between the two.

-THIS IS NOT MY WORK BELOW-

Meet my newest client. This client came to me the day after getting her hair extensions done by someone else. This girl went to a stylist and asked for an ombre done with hair extensions. Now an Ombre in itself is a newly learned color technique and it can be done with extensions too. I've done it. It is not however a technique that can be done by just buying another color of extensions and popping them in. Which is what was done here. The client has brunette hair and wanted a brunette to blonde ombre.

What should have been done prior to putting the extensions in, is the hair color itself. Stylist should've Ombre her hair first and then matched the extension to the colored hair. If this isn't done you are left with a 'two toned look' or a Boot leg 'dip dye' which it looks like she's got a line around her here.

Also I would like to educate those of you who are looking to get extensions done, on the process. If you notice in the photo, it looks like she has 'lines' or 'parts' in the hair, spaces if you will. I can tell just by looking at her head these extensions were not put in properly.

Whom ever put these in, did not have clean even sections. These extensions are also the I tip extensions, which you can see in the photo are not clamped down right being the top of the I tip is sticking out into her head too much!

Now the higher up I got in her hair I noticed their was no 'formulation' on how they were put in. Meaning she just took random sections of her hair and attached an extension. Thus leaving the client with 'spaces'.

The only way to fix her hair was to take them all out & put them all back in, in the proper way. As I mentioned before she wanted an Ombre look. Being that her hair was colored with BOX dye and Wella dye, the dark brown she had wasn't lifting any higher then a medium brown and to save the integrity of her hair after two processes and Olaplaex I wasn't going to lift anymore. I then had to match it to a color for her extensions & reinstall.
Her final outcome was beautiful. Blended, color looked great and the health of her hair was intact.

I managed to get most of the warmth out of her hair before the installation of the extensions again. Unfortunately giving her an ombre look wasn't possible without extreme damage. This client found me on Yelp and I am so glad she did cause I was given the opportunity to educate, and help her. Their's no better feeling then when a client tearfully says thank you for helping me.

Salon in Rhode Island That Does Remy Hair Extensions By Jaclynn Kate

It's highly unfortunate that I have been extremely slacking on my blogging. Truth is, I have been so crazy busy with hair extensions, salon clients, and weddings that I haven't kept up with blogging. So here I am starting the new year off right and getting back on my A Game =]

Starting with my client Kristen! Kristen found me on a Craiglists post over a year ago. I was running a hair extension special getting $50.00 off a full set and she came to see me. He hair was in okay shape as she explained to me that she has very curly hair but straightens is constantly. I continued to listen to her issues with her hair situation, dry, brittle, breaking, and doesn't grow.

Now first thing I like to do with all my clients is be 100% honest and real about the situation and give them real expectations. Kristen didn't seem like the perfect candidate for extensions. Her hair was dry and breaking because she was constantly flat ironing her hair. I explained to her that these extensions are wonderful and have a long lifeline but they are not ideal for someone to flat iron everyday at a high degree. They need constant moisture, oil, conditioning to make the lifeline last. I said I would only put them in if she agreed to take care of them with the instructions I give to her on my Take-Home-Sheet. She agreed. She has gotten three full sets since we have met and she takes great care of her extensions!
These will last her 6-8 months. The lifeline is guaranteed six months from the maker of these extensions. However I have found that you can wear them longer if you trim the dead off the ends as time goes on.

We also have a deal in the salon where if you get ANY service done, you can get a full set of mink eye lash extensions for $90.00. Kristen took the jump and got the full set too!! Figured I'd share her beauty with ya'll =]

Can I Color My Hair Extensions Grey?

Can I Color My Hair Extensions Grey?

Before & After Extensions in Rhode Island

Blonde Hair Extensions in Rhode Island

Can I Color My Hair Extensions? By Jaclynn Kate

I'm asked all the time from my clients & other stylists clients if they are able to 'dye' their hair extensions. Well, in all honesty it depends on the kind of extension and where you are going to try and take the color. I personally have had 'WHITE' hair extensions and colored them to nearly a black. ( I was going through a phase haha)

With that being said, the brand that I use on myself & on my clients says on it's website that you are able to color them being that they are 100% human remy extensions. You can NOT bleach them though. If bleach gets on them they can & probably will break.

Now another question I am asked is, 'what about if I get these extensions & I bleach my roots'? See a stylist. Even if you are a stylist yourself you don't want to risk over lapping bleach on your new extensions & having them break. It's not work the hassle or the money invested. You just have to be careful with the application is all.

Onto my inspiration for my blog. My client below is someone I've known from hair school. Normally doing another stylist hair is actually really frustrating, however in this case given the project it was so nice to have a stylist in my chair who understood the process.

This is actually her second sitting in my chair. She was in a few days earlier with the request for a very cool blonde/grey tones in her hair. Right now the grey hair color is extremely trendy while it can also be very tricky to get. So we did some low lights in her hair and toned it down a bit but clearly was still on the warmer side.

So she came back in for another toning & the decision to add in 100 pieces of extensions to her hair. Her hair is SUPER thin, but she has a lot of it so it will hide the beads on the extensions.

And her after photo is as cool as I could get it. First toning her with 09b/09v/9t and clear. Didn't even move the color.  Then I went back in with straight 09v... not much of anything happened.

So I remixed 06t and a cap of 09b and was very happy with the results. Hence why I was happy a stylist was in my chair. I feel like almost anyone else would't have understood the process. Nonetheless she was very happy with the results of her hair & the extensions blended very nice!

Before & After Brunette Hair Extensions

Long Brunette Hair Extensions in Rhode Island  By Jaclynn Kate

With wedding season in full motion I have sadly been slacking on blogging about what's happening in the salon. With that being said I have SO many fun blogs to catch up on & deliver you with!! If you follow my salon blog, my wedding blog & my blog about myself personally, you know I am clearly obsessed with hair, makeup & having fun living life. I feel as though my love for what I do attracts my clients from all over & they really enjoy their time in my chair, and are high on life when they leave with their new do!
Moving forward, I want to introduce my client Genie to you. Genie lives out in Mass and drove 2.5 hours to come sit in my chair for her hair transformation. Her hair is on the thinner side and is quite curly in texture. Unfortunately like most girls Genie hate's her curly hair & tends to straighten it 9 times out of ten. Possibly causing damage being she doesn't use a leave in conditioner/protector and it tends not grow the way she likes.
In the first photo here you can see I have blown her hair out to start the application process.

We decided to apply 80 pieces of hair extensions to her hair. Just so she can have the additional volume she was looking for. Second photo is how the extensions look right after the application & the third photo is how they look after being washed & styled for the night!

As always, I tend to check in with my first time hair extension clients to make sure they're happy with their investment. Happy clients are the best clients !!
